Sadly more than a third of adults in the United States cannot swim the length of a pool, putting them at risk for becoming one of the 10 people who drown every day in this country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our inclusive program caters to adults seeking to enhance their swimming abilities or overcome any hesitation in the water. We focus on instilling comfort, confidence, and conquering water-related fears.
Our primary objective is to ensure that participants achieve water safety. Throughout the program, you will acquire essential skills such as floating, kicking, pulling, proper breathing techniques, survival strokes, freestyle, and building endurance.
Our goal for adults is to attain water proficiency and be capable of swimming 25 yards (the length of a standard pool) unassisted, demonstrating a recognizable freestyle without interruption.
Adults typically seek swim lessons during these times:
Early Spring (March - May): Many adults begin swim lessons in the spring to get ready for summer activities such as beach days, poolside events, and travel. This season provides a few months to build confidence in the water before summer, whether for enjoying the hotel pool, snorkeling, beach outings, or preparing for new adventures like scuba diving.
Summer (June - August): Demand peaks as people become more active outdoors. Warmer temperatures and longer days make summer an ideal time for those eager to gain confidence in the water.
New Year (January - February): Some adults start swimming in January as part of New Year's resolutions to learn how to swim or fitness goals. Indoor pools and heated facilities make it comfortable even during cooler months.
IMPORTANT: Don’t wait until the last minute to start swim lessons before your vacation! Each year, we see adults joining in May for vacations planned in June. Enroll early to give yourself plenty of time to build comfort in the water and maintain those skills for your upcoming trip.
One of the most frequent complaints we've heard about other swimming programs is that instructors don’t get in the pool with adult learners. We find this approach unhelpful and believe it's essential for instructors to be in the water, providing hands-on support and guidance.
Having the instructor in the pool with adult learners is crucial for several reasons:
Increased Comfort and Confidence: Many adults learning to swim feel anxious or vulnerable in the water, especially if they have had little prior experience. When the instructor is physically present in the pool, it provides a reassuring presence, helping to ease anxiety and build confidence.
Hands-On Guidance: Learning to swim involves mastering specific movements and techniques that can be difficult to grasp through verbal instruction alone. By being in the water, the instructor can offer real-time adjustments, demonstrate techniques up close, and provide physical support as the swimmer practices.
Safety and Support: For beginners, having someone in the water is an added layer of safety. The instructor can intervene more quickly if the swimmer experiences difficulty or fatigue, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment.
Encouragement and Motivation: Learning to swim can be intimidating for adults, and having an instructor in the water actively engaged can boost morale. This presence communicates commitment, support, and encouragement, all of which are essential for keeping adult learners motivated.
This approach not only builds trust but also accelerates learning, creating a more positive and productive experience for adult swimmers.
